One unique garden gift you may find singing in your backyard is the Common Redpoll.  The Common Redpoll is a very abundant bird.  You’ll find it all over North America, but generally, this bird only appears in the winter.  It migrates to boreal regions.  Another interesting fact is that the Common Redpoll appears irregularly.

Generally, you’ll only see the Common Redpoll every other year, making it a rather rare garden gift idea from Mother Nature. The male Common Redpoll has a bright red crown, while its chin is black.  Its lower back and rump are somewhat pale in color.  It also has a pink or red breast and cheeks.  The female is colored very similarly to the male except its coloring tends to be darker and it has less red.

The Common Redpoll eats small seeds, grass, and weeds.  The birds feature small throat pouches that allow them to pick up extra seeds while they’re out gathering.  They can quickly fill these throat pouches with seeds and then fly away to safety to eat them in a safer and warmer location.
