My Place in the Yard

It’s funny how everyone in the family has their favorite place in the yard. One of the kids would rather play on the swing set than eat or sleep and the other spend most of his time outside with the dog. That is, if we can drag him away from the computer and the games he plays with his friends. My wife finds solace working in the many flower beds and gardens we have in the front and back yards and up until this past year my place was on the deck with the grill. That was before the pergola.

We bought and installed a cedar pergola last spring and created a wonderful sitting area under the shade. My wife planted some amazing plants that grew up and around it making a laced canopy of sorts that let in just enough sunlight in the evenings. I found myself drawn to this place to recharge my batteries each evening and it has made a difference in the way I feel. Had I known that pergolas were as easy to install and as reasonable to buy, I would have done it a long time ago.

Why a Garden Shed

In the world of sheds it’s hard to distinguish between a storage shed and a garden shed. Why is that? It’s because the difference lies not in how they are made of or the size they happen to be but what you are putting into the shed itself. What determines a backyard garden shed is it is specifically for lawn and garden items and the size will depend on the equipment and tools you have to store. I personally have two sheds; one for lawn and garden items and another for storage. I could have bought one big shed and used it for both but I prefer to have them separate.

I also like vinyl garden sheds because they are so easy to clean and maintain no matter what gets on them and in them. I find they’re stronger than one would think and they look nice in my backyard. I have 10 x 8’s and one holds my riding lawn mower along with all my garden and greenhouse tools and equipment. Since I don’t have anything else mixed in with this storage unit I don’t care if dirt, grass, oil and grim get everywhere. I can empty it once a year and give it a good cleaning and it’s taken care of. I store everything else in the second unit.
